Only refinished in clear poly due to a spray paint job in the past. Upgraded chrome hardware, first of the clam shell strainers. Stunning sound!

That's a nice one! I play my mahogany RK everyday. Killer sounding snare drums.
Enjoy! Nice job on that one, the hardware looks spanking new!

Fun to feel so good about something you connect with - and such a great drum. The period of RKs from yours thru 1957 is my favorite drum in the world - especially those definitive sounding 7x14's. Both of you are smilin'!
Man o` man i would love to hear the tone on that one.Don`t really need the rest of the kit-just play everything on that-great job and hardware`s fantastic!

That's a nice one~! Chrome looks really good.
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Thanks!
For 75 years old, I was amazed at how clean the chrome came after some Brasso and lots of finger pain. None of the lugs are cracked, Re-rings are all intact with no separation, in perfect round, and has the original lever.
The only real issue I had with re-assembly is the PRE-1416 snares. I had to order them from a dealer in London. They needed some widening of the slots, and they are about 1/8" short. Figured they would stretch out over time. I do have the originals though, but one wire is snapped.
A guitar buddy bought this at an estate sale with an upright bass. Wouldn't tell me what he paid for it, surely not much in the condition it was in.

Beautiful drum! Nice figuring in the wood. Slingerland Radio King snare drum....it is one of my Bucket List drums. Very nice photo too.
Spraying painting that drum is like spray painting the Mona Lisa.
My 5.5" Radio King is sweet but the 7" is truly king. Congrats.

I agree! I used Zip Strip as directed with a plastic scraper and the crap came right off! Yes, the Mona Lisa was underneath. Two weeks later, and about 30 hours, and I think she looks pretty good again. Even the badge came clean. I was even able to re-use the original grommet.
